War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
No especially notable atrocities reported today.
Overview
Ukraine reportedly downed another two Russian Su-34/35 aircraft in eastern Ukraine, likely using a Patriot air defense system.
The Biden Administration is reportedly aiming to provide Ukraine with additional ATACMS missiles in the event that Congress soon passes a badly-needed aid package. A previous shipment of ATACMS resulted in an immensely successful strike on a Russian helicopter base, but the missiles were too few in number to make a more serious battlefield impact.
Russia appears to have successfully coerced Ecuador into scuttling the South American country’s planned transfer of $200 million worth of legacy Soviet equipment to Ukraine, which was meant to be replaced by US-provided gear.
