War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
No especially notable atrocities reported today.
Overview
Ukrainian forces launched another drone attack on a Russian oil and gas facility, this time the Lukoil refinery in Volgograd (formerly named Stalingrad), the largest in southern Russia and one of the largest in the country.
A Russian strategic bomber commander responsible for launching cruise missile attacks on Ukrainian cities was reportedly shot dead in his car. Ukraine has vowed to bring to justice any individuals responsible for the planning or execution of war crimes.
Ukrainian exports through the western Black Sea corridor have now exceeded levels reached under the former Black Sea Grain Initiative and are nearing prewar levels.
