War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Russian authorities claimed that a Ukrainian artillery strike hit a market in Donetsk City, killing at least 25 civilians and wounding dozens of others; given the general unreliability of Russian governmental sources, it is unclear how accurate these figures are. Donetsk is often shelled by Ukrainian forces as it remains one of Russia’s primary bases and logistical nodes in Ukraine.
Overview
Polish Prime Minister Tusk made a visit to Kyiv, where he announced another aid package for Ukraine including a loan for the purchase of weapons amongst other unrevealed provisions.
According to Ukraine, Belgium has already provided $665 million in aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the year.
The European Union is reportedly preparing to provide at least $24 billion in funding for the Ukrainian purchase of munitions.
