War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
No especially notable atrocities reported today.
Overview
Russia launched another wave of 51 missiles at Ukrainian cities, part of its ongoing second Terror Bombing campaign, only 18 of which were intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses. An official indicated that Ukraine is beginning to suffer significant attrition to its interceptor stockpiles due to repeated Russian strikes.
This is in part due to the continued failure of Congress to pass a Ukraine/Israel/border security bill, which has been on hold since late 2023 due to ongoing dysfunction in Congress. Hopes that a deal might be passed in January dwindled as extremist House Republicans once again blocked a motion from their own party, over objections from leaders of both parties in both the House and Senate.
