War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
The Russian 810th Naval Infantry Brigade (predictably) edited a post in an attempted to remove its claim that its forces were making use of chemical irritant grenades. The use of chemical weapons, including irritants, is a violation of the laws of war.
Overview
Russian forces conducted another drone and missile attack on civil infrastructure in southern Ukraine, with the majority downed by Ukrainian air defenses.
Polish truckers partially ended their blockade of border crossings with Ukraine, part of a weekslong effort to protest economic competition from Ukraine.
The Ukrainian military claims that Russias has begun reducing its use of aircraft near the frontline following the claimed (but very likely) downing of three Russian Su-34s, likely by a retasked Patriot air defense system. If true, the ability of Ukrainian air defenses to begin hampering Russian air operations – which were already being conducted in a hesitant manner at the edge of their range to maximize survivability – could influence the air war as F-16 and accompanying long-range Western air-to-air missiles are set to arrive.
