War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Nearly 100 children deported to Russia from occupied Ukraine reportedly contracted a severe respiratory illness, with at least one (a twelve-year-old girl) dying. Thousands of Ukrainian children – many of them orphans whose parents were killed by Russia during the invasion – have been removed from their homes to Russia. The forcible abduction of children from occupied territories is a crime against humanity.
Overview
Ukraine indicated its intention to pursue mass-production of drones with long-range precision strike capability, weapons that could give it the capability to launch more retaliatory strikes on vulnerable targets inside central Russia.
Japan is reportedly moving to alter its more than half-century old policy of banning arms exports in order to assist the United States in supplying Ukraine, specifically aimed at providing Patriot missiles and potentially artillery shells.
