Day 647

Articles and Reporting
An excellent and insightful interview of Ukrainian volunteer Yana Skhidna by Ukrainian reserve officer “Tatarigami,” detailing her story of the war and recounting her efforts in Avdiivka. Volunteers are a vital part of Ukraine’s war effort who regularly spend their money, spare their time, and risk their lives to assist the armed forces, who have made innumerable contributions to the war.

Russia

Ukraine
War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Russian soldiers were recorded executing two Ukrainian soldiers as they attempted to surrender after running out of ammunition near Stepove. The summary execution of POW is a heinous violation of the laws of war.
Overview
Ukraine is reportedly being forced to expand its prisoner of war camp capacity, due to Russia’s refusal to conduct prisoner exchanges. Russia has refused large-scale, state-to-state POW transfers since August of this year, with the only exchanges taking place since being local efforts conducted by forces on the field.
Russia once again launched a dozen drones and a missile at infrastructure in southern Ukraine, with most of the projectiles downed (except one Shahed which hit an unknown piece of infrastructure).
Ukrainian partisans remain active in Melitopol, where they reportedly carried out another successful raid on Russian occupation forces, killing several and destroying some equipment.
