War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Bohdan Yermokhin – an orphaned Ukrainian teenager who was deported from Mariupol and then served a conscription notice by Russian authorities, sparking widespread outrage in Ukraine and abroad – was returned home after mediation from Qatar and the United Nations United Nations Children’s Fund. Yermokhin is one of thousands of children (including many orphans whose parents were killed by the Russian invasion) who have been forcibly removed from occupied Ukraine, and nearly became one of the thousands of Ukrainians forced to fight for Russia, both war crimes.

Russian border guards are reportedly forcibly pushing migrants to the Finnish border, resulting in some friction along NATO’s newest frontier.
President Zelenskyy dismissed the head of Ukraine’s military medical service and called for further reforms within the system, including the supply of better medical equipment, reduction in paperwork and other bureaucracy, and improved communications. Ukraine has possessed a noticeably superior medical system to Russia since the beginning of the conflict, and this is likely one step in a mid-war reform effort being undertaken following the effective failure of the Ukrainian 2023 Counteroffensive.
