War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Russian occupation authorities are reportedly engaging in the forcible conscription of Ukrainian civilians in the occupied areas, and have continued to expand “passportization” efforts in those territories to that end. The conscription of civilians in occupied territories is a violation of the laws of war.
Overview
Pro-Ukraine Russian volunteers reportedly killed a colonel of the Russian FSB intelligence agency in Russia’s Bryansk Oblast. This is the latest in a recent spate of partisan attacks and assassinations on Russian officers and occupation officials.
A delegation including the Ukrainian Minister of Economy Svyrydenko arrived in the United States for discussions on aid and rebuilding efforts for Ukraine.
United States Ambassador to Ukraine Bring reported that the number of ships that have departed Ukraine through the new Ukrainian-established Black Sea corridor has reached 100, exporting millions of tons of grain and other commodities. Russian interdiction efforts have largely proved ineffective thus far, as the Black Sea Fleet has remained almost entirely confined to port.
