War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
Senior Russian official and former President and Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev dismissed a recent proposal that Ukraine join NATO sans its occupied territories by stating that Ukraine could not join the Alliance because it is not a country. Russian state policy continues to deny the existence of a Ukrainian polity and people, whose culture and language it continues to repress.
Overview
Much of the remainder of Wagner Group has reportedly been subsumed into the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia). The younger Prigozhin – son of the mercenary company’s assassinated former head – has reportedly taken control over much of the organization and overseen its integration into Rosgvardia.
Ukrainian partisans reportedly bombed a Russian headquarters, killing at least three officers. Partisan attacks have increased in recent weeks, targeting Russian logistics lines, officers, and occupation officials.
