War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity

Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.

No especially notable atrocities reported today.

Overview

Ukraine

Russia continues to launch drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, infrastructure, and military installations.

Ukraine has finally received its first shipment of F-16 aircraft. For now, the fighters will likely serve to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, though the provision of long-range missiles could permit them to threaten Russian air and ground assets.

Russia

Ukrainian forces continue to launch near-daily long-range strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities, as well as airfields.

International

China claimed that it will restrict the export of drones that could be used for military purposes, though it is unclear how seriously this will be pursued or how much of an impact these restrictions might actually have on Russian supply.

The United States announced another $1.7 billion aid package for Ukraine, largely consisting of various munitions.
