War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Russian forces in Ukraine have committed and continue to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied regions of Ukraine, in violation of international law and basic human decency. Russian crimes in Ukraine constitute genocide and ethnic cleansing, with Russia’s stated war aims including the elimination of Ukrainians as a separate country, language, culture, and people.
No especially notable atrocities reported today.
Overview
Ukrainian naval struck and sunk the Russian landing ship Caesar Kunikov south of Crimea, the latest in a long line of similar losses. According to Ukraine, of the 13 landing ships originally composing the Black Sea Fleet, four have been sunk and four damaged, leaving only five operational. Russia’s continued insistence on operating these vulnerable (and valuable) craft alone instead of in mutually-supporting flotillas remains baffling.
Canada announced that it would provide another $44 million aid package for Ukraine related to the support and maintenance of future F-16 deliveries.
